The Location
Gladstone’s Land is one of the Royal Mile’s oldest surviving tenements, a traditional Old Town property that has stood at the heart of Edinburgh for more than 500 years. Named after merchant Thomas Gladstone, who bought the building in 1617, it offers a rare glimpse into life in historic Edinburgh, from its bustling trading past to its beautifully restored painted ceilings of around 1620. After falling into serious decline, the building was rescued from demolition by the National Trust for Scotland in the 1930s.
